While the morning started off with the threat of rain!!! The day turned out to be beautiful, sunny and warm. The athletes turned out in record numbers, great posing routines, strong competitors and the crowd was cheering on their favorites. The Overall Winners include: Cary Dinapoli Overall Women’s Bodybuilding Watch for photos of the event and the winners in an upcoming issue of Iron Man Magazine sponsor of the Hall of Fame Award. It was a special day for Dr. Bob Delmonteque who was inducted into the Muscle Beach Venice Bodybuilding Hall of Fame. Bob has spent 65 years as a training consultant reinforcing the essentials of exercise and nutrition. Congratulations to Ron Kramer, owner of Thermolife, who received a Certificate of Appreciation from the City of Los Angeles, Councilman Bill Rosendahl for his generous donation of fencing for the bleachers. The sponsors were busy handing out samples, providing education and of course the wonderful giveaways. HOT! HOT! HOT!....both the athletes and the weather. The Mr. & Ms. Muscle Beach July 4th, 2011 was spectacular. Congratulations to EIGHT time Ms. Olympia, Lenda Murray, inducted into the Muscle Beach Venice Bodybuilding Hall of Fame. Her Bodybuilding career and her legacy to the sport made her an outstanding inductee. Lenda was at the event to accept her award and see the Bronze Plaque mounted on the Muscle Beach Venice Walk of Fame. She joins other notable Inductees, Joe Weider, Jack LaLanne, Cory Everson and many others acknowledging their contribution to health and fitness. Andy Haman and his family presented a great posing routine. The family that poses together – stays together. Andy is a Dymatize sponsored athlete and the crowd loved his routine. | MUSCLE BEACH MEMORIAL WEEKEND SPORTS SPECTACULAR |
The unofficial start of summer came in with a BANG at the Muscle Beach Sports Spectacular Memorial Weekend. Saturday, May 28, 2011 saw Sumo Wrestlers from Southern California compete. The crowd was cheering on their favorite wrestler and six time American Sumo champ Dan Kalbfleisch was in attendance to compete. Sunday, May 29, 2011 three dojos brought their students to provide demonstrations of the skill and craft of Martial Arts to the Muscle Beach stage. Thanks to Kingi’s Kajukenbo, Kali Arnis Eslro and XMA for their hard work in preparation and their great performance. The Flight 2 Da Light pop band performed on stage in the afternoon. Their great music could be heard all over Venice. In addition, 25 bouts of amateur boxing took place. Youngsters from 8 years old up to adults were paired off and put on the gloves to compete. Monday, May 30, 2011 was the Muscle Beach International Classic, Bodybuilding, Figure and Bikini competition & Armed Foreces Championship. Muscle Beach honored Jack LaLanne the world renown icon and Muscle Beach Venice Lifetime Achievement Inductee. His passing was a great sadness. His wife Elaine was on hand to provide encouraging words to carry on Jack’s message of health and fitness. In recognition of Jack and his body of work the “Spirit of Jack LaLanne” Awards were presented to Jim Arrington and Jackie Lee both 78 years old, long time competitors at Muscle Beach Events, for their dedication to Jack’s philosophy. Rich Gaspari was inducted into the Muscle Beach Venice Bodybuilding Hall of Fame. His bronze plaque is now mounted on the Boardwalk Muscle Beach Walk of Fame. | The Muscle Beach Venice 4th Annual Toy Drive December 11-12, 2010 |
The Muscle Beach Venice 4th Annual Toy Drive kick's off the first week of November, 2010 and continues through December 12, 2010. The Toy Drive Sponsored by Joe Wheatley Productions and Bodybuilding.com in conjunction with the City of Los Angeles Recreation and Parks and the LAPD Pacific Division is dedicated to providing new toys to needy children in the Venice area. Toys will be distributed by LAPD Pacific Division. "In this time of economic struggle, the toy drive is a great demonstration and opportunity for the gift of giving" said promoter Joe Wheatley. This year we have added 7 new drop locations. Please bring a new unwrapped toy to the following establishments: Danny's Deli, Canal Club, James' Beach, Sidewalk Café, Townhouse Restaurant – and receive a promotional incentive. In addition Gold's Gym and Venice Beach Care Center will be pleased to accept your donation. The six week toy drive will end the weekend of December 11 & 12 at the Venice Rec Center - 1800 Ocean Front Walk, Venice CA. On Saturday, December 11, 2010 a booth will be set up to take the last rush of toys. On Sunday, December 12, 2010, Christmas musical entertainment will be provided by "Flight 2 Dalite" starting at 1 pm. This year's Labor Day competition saw 87 Bodybuilding, Figure and Bikini Competitors strut their stuff at Muscle Beach Venice. The Overall Winners for the event include: Women's Bodybuilding Overall – Lauren Powers Congratulations to all the winners!!!! All the competitors were inspired when Arnold showed up early in the morning at the Weight Pen, riding his bike down the Boardwalk. He was gracious and stopped to take pictures with the athletes. He encouraged them to continue the pursuit of their goals for health and fitness. The event Title Sponsor Muscle Tech and other sponsors including Bodybuilding.com, Iron Man Magazine, Vitamin Shoppe, Adore Swimwear, Mutliblaster, Bulky Boys, Big Back Grips, Independent Herbal Life and Vitamin Water provided education and giveaways to the crowds on the Boardwalk. Thanks to all the sponsors for their support of the events at Muscle Beach. A new addition to the competition at Muscle Beach included a hot dog eating contest sponsored by Bodybuilding.com, Big City Reds Hot Dogs and Big Daddy and Sons. Although this may seem a contradiction at a fitness event - the winner of the event "Furious Pete Czerwinski" (a BB.com sponsored athlete) has a truly inspirational story. After many years suffering from anorexia, he overcame that illness and entered into competitive eating. He is an example of an individual who is healthy, fit and is a strong supporter of exercise. All the contestants were great!!! WATCH OUT CONEY ISLAND The City of Los Angeles awarded a Certificate of Appreciation to 92 year old Relna Brewer McRae. Relna and her brother were the original founders of Muscle Beach Santa Monica. Relna's reputation recognizes her as the world's strongest women during the 30's, 40's and 50's. She was the first women to lift weights as an extensive part of her exercise regime. Relna was inducted into the Muscle Beach Venice Bodybuilding Hall of Fame 2009 and her plaque can be seen along with many others on the Muscle Beach Walk of Fame. An historic event took place at the July 4th, 2010 Mr. & Ms. Muscle Beach. A wedding extraordinaire! Jerome “Hollywood” Ferguson, long time Head Judge at Muscle Beach is now “off the market”. He was married to Marnie Holley his Canadian sweetheart. The bride arrived in a horse drawn carriage (Sponsored by ProFight), beautiful in her lovely wedding dress. Following the wedding a record number of competitors competed in the bodybuilding, figure and bikini competition.

A C-17 Flyover from March AFB sent the crowd into a frenzy. Thanks to Colonel Ken Goode our ground support for bringing the big bird in "low, slow and dirty". Joe Weider was on hand to receive recognition and a huge thank you for his generous donation of permanent stadium seating which was installed at Venice Beach. The seating capacity for the event has now been raised to 1000 spectators who can sit and watch the excitement on stage. Joe was acknowledged by Mark Antonio Grant, representing Councilmen Bill Rosendahl 11th District City of Los Angeles. A special poster was presented to Joe by Mick Skinner from Bodybuilding.com. Ed Fury and William Smith were inducted into the Muscle Beach Venice Bodybuilding Hall of Fame. Their bronze plaques have joined the many other inductees along the Boardwalk in the Muscle Beach Walk of Fame. Congratulations go to the Overall Winners: Xavisus Gayben – Overall Armed Forces Champion Thanks to Muscle Tech the Title Sponsor of the event for all their support. RESOLUTION FROM THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES COUNCIL |
It is with great pleasure that Joe Wheatley Productions in conjunction with Councilmen Bill Rosendahl, 11th District, City of Los Angeles were able to present a Resolution from the City of LA honoring Joe Weider, Father of Fitness and Nutrition, for his dedication and lifetime commitment to physical fitness, nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. During a ceremony at City Hall on Friday, January 22, 2010, the Muscle Beach Venice Bodybuilding Hall of Fame, Lifetime Achievement Inductee with his wife Betty, family and friends received recognition and acknowledgement for his 73 year commitment to his philosophy. Standing proud, Joe acknowledged his meager beginnings in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He described his early achievements in publishing magazines, books and inventing equipment that supported weight training as a form of exercise. He went on to include nutrition in his publications and soon became the co-innovator and voice of the International Federation of Congratulations Joe!!! You were right! Today, the modern perspective includes strength training, aerobics and nutrition as the foundation for a healthy lifestyle. |
